A WARM WELCOME AWAITS YOU

AT WALNUT BLOCK COTTAGES

Your friendly hosts at Walnut Block cottages are Clyde and Helen Sowman. They live nearby and are happy to advise you on anything from local activities to excellent restaurants, but the cottages are secluded and self-contained if you wish complete privacy.

LUXURY VINEYARD ESTATE ACCOMMODATION NEAR BLENHEIM

The luxury self-catering cottages at Walnut Block offer unique vineyard accommodation just outside of Blenheim in the Marlborough wine region.

THE HISTORY - WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Towering above the vines, the majestic walnut tree, from which Walnut Block takes its name, can be seen for miles across the beautiful Marlborough plains. Over 100 years old, this tree stands in the middle of the Sauvignon Blanc vines of Walnut Block, and provides a special historical focal point for the vineyard.

The panoramic view from each of the cottages takes in both the walnut tree and the carefully tended rows of vines, and on towards the mountainous range in the distance that marks the edge of the fertile Marlborough wine region.

BEHIND THE VINES - THE WALNUT BLOCK STORY

Walnut Block vineyard is owned by the Sowman family, and Walnut Block Wines is the vision of two brothers - Nigel and Clyde Sowman. Combining their experience in viticulture and the wine industry with their passion and appreciation for fine wine, they have created their own unique range of superbly crafted Marlborough wines.

WELL ESTABLISHED FAMILY VINEYARD IN ORGANIC CONVERSION

The Sowman family planted their vineyard in 1996 and with six vintages under the Walnut Block label, they’re looking forward to a productive and inspirational future for Walnut Block wines.

Walnut Block vineyard is in organic conversion and while some wines will be fully organic as of 2011, official organic certification is only granted after strict organic principles have been followed for several years. While better for the environment and for you, organic practices benefit the potential flavours of the grapes too.
